Vivi..Still Missing In New York City...

As many of you may or may not know, whichever the case may be, a beautiful Whippet dog named "Vivi" escaped from her cage early Wed morning (Feb 15th,2006) after appearing in the Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden here in NYC-Feb 13th & 14th. I had watched both nights of the live show on the Animal Planet channel and *loved* it, I was especially excited during the "Whippet" and "Terrier" portion of the show. I just love animals so very much, I watch everything and anything about them every chance I can. I had been worried sick over this news since the moment I first heard the news report on my alarm clock while I was still in bed Wed morning before work. I have been watching the news and constantly been checking for updates about Vivi online as well. I was furious to learn that officials had already called off the search for Vivi on Thursday, after just searching for a day and a half. They were fully aware of the upcoming frigid temperatures that were quickly approaching for the weekend, yet they still gave up searching. I found a site that posted a story on Vivi and have made a few posts to it, if anyone is ineterested here are my two comments :(scroll down beneath the article and you will see the comments): Earthtimes.org
Here is the link to an article in the New York Post on Saturday, Feb. 18th, regarding a possible sighting of Vivi near the surrounding neighborhood of JFK airport, I only pray the source is accurate:
NY Post Article
The temperatures Saturday and Sunday night dropped down to below zero with the wind chill..I have been praying that Vivi somehow found a place to seek shelter, at least long enough for her to survive the night. Ok, well obviously I will not rest emotionally until she is found and reunited with her owners but I am not giving up hope, no way. Just thought that any of you that are fellow animal lovers would like to read this.

My Attempt to search for Vivi..
Greetings my fellow animal lovers..
Well, as some of you know, yesterday after work I attempted to head out to the neighborhood near JFK airport to help search for Vivi. I gathered some various meats and put them in a plastic bag which I poked holes in so the smell would hopefully lure Vivi out of hiding if I happen to pass wherever she might be. I also made a leash out of a rope I had in the trunk of my car. Well, off I went, map in hand, trying to navigate and drive at the same time. Unfortunately I ended up missing a turn and got pretty lost. The surrounding area near JFK is a rather bad neighborhood so I was beginning to realize that going on this mission all alone wasn't the best idea I ever had, but I have just been SO worried about poor Vivi, I wanted to at least *try* to help her. After a great deal of circling all around, trying to determine where I was and locate the spot it had been reported that Vivi had last been seen, it was pretty late and dark out so I decided I had no other choice but to head back home. I was angry with myself for not having any luck, felt very defeated. I also learned today that there had been a volunteer search party going on yesterday at JFK airport at 5pm, I only wish I had known, I would have joined right in, especially since I was right there near the airport exactly at 5pm. However, I have not given up, I am checking a website (Craigslist) as well as many other sites, for information regarding the next search party for Vivi. I will *definitely* join if another search is organized for volunteers. Here is the link for those interested:
Craigslist
There has also been what appears to be a *good sign* posted on another site regarding the possibility of Vivi's pawprints in the sand of the nearby marsh area of the airport: Newsday Animal House Forum
(This is a GREAT site that posts updates on the search so be sure to check it often)
Unfortunately the general attitude and overall concern for Vivi seems to be lacking from nearly everyone I share my feelings with. Sadly, I am experiencing it from friends, neighbors, and even my family, which breaks my heart most of all. It hurts me deeply to be ridiculed, teased and looked at like I'm "crazy" or it's a big joke that I am so emotional and determined to find this missing dog in any way I can. I guess I have to come to terms with the fact that I'm an idealist living in a world of self-involved, ignorant people who prefer to see me and everything I care about as "laughable" rather than actually getting involved or trying to "make a difference" for once in their lives. I realize their is little I can do to change "people" but at least I "can" do "my" best to help change the world, however small that change might seem. I suppose I must learn that I can't "make" people care just because "I" care.
Ok, I will keep you all posted on any news that I hear and I hope to continue my quest to help search for Vivi a.s.a.p. My heart is breaking for her and my prayers are with her, as well as the countless others that are lost, abused and neglected creatures of the world.
